EVGA GTX 280 Quick Look

Back

The GTX 280 just release today, and you guys know, this is de ja vu from my 9800gx2 video.
Where I have ONE I will have TWO in another week. My current 9800gtx is being step-up.
I want to start off that all you who are watching this video probably already read the review on this card.
Tomshardware, Techreport, etc...
YES the 9800GX2 beat this card in most test. I want you to know that. This is NOT a Crysis Killer.
"Unless you have you have 3"

You have to appreciate this card for what it is.
1st -- This is a "SINGLE" GPU card. I'm impress it scales so well with a GX2 card. There hasn't been a card that did so this well since the 8800 ultra.
2nd- It takes Anti-Alias and Filtering very well and scales pretty well at High resolution.
3rd- PhysX is a neat feature to look forward to. Nvidia bought this company and now utilizing it. I would like to see a benchmark running a game that use PhysX. Unfortunately driver has not yet Mature and the PhysX driver has not been release yet.
4th- SLI, this card scale really well in most game in SLI. Look at the benchmark in some of the test you read and see for yourself.

I also want to take this chance to tell you, I will NOT TRI SLI this card. I simply don't believe in it nor want to spend the $ on it. You'll have to resort to Maxishine or Truitbar video for that when they get the FTW edition from EVGA or the Black Edition from XFX.

Lastly, YES this card is NOT worth the money. Now hear me out. I paid about 700$ for this card including tax and 1 day shipping. The GX2 is value at 400$ and can beat this card in most test.

Yet then again when the GX2 was release the 8800gt in sli beat it most test as well.
Just consider, you've already spend hundreds if not thousand of $ on a computer already.
Once this card drops to around 400$ along with more mature drivers. I believe a good number will turn up for this card or the GTX 260.

As for myself and some user, this card is my Lamborghini and buying a high end card as this. Money doesn't tend to be a factor...to a point.

Anyway I've talk enough. My next video will be EPISODE 3 on Bsan89 PC built. "What the deuce?"
Expect benchmark, gameplay, etc .

Feel free to check out my older video.
Also feel free to comment/feedback/discuss w/e.

I can't wait till ATI release their card. I want to see what GDDR5 can do.

Great song, great card, Coldplay is my favorite band and this is a videocard I want. I also agree with what you said "if you want to get the latest technology, you got to pay hard to play hard" well said. Keep it up!

What power supply did u get for it?
I tried a cheap 600w psu and it couldnt handle it because it had only 30A. Pls reply

I got a Corsair HX1000W as it was the lowest power PSU that Nvidia's website would recommend for dual SLI. If you look around they list compatible motherboards and other components for each card in SLI.

I am still testing this setup at the moment but have come into some trouble as the plugs in my apartment can't seem to take the large draw from the PSU.

SO check out nvidia's website, where they will list compatible components.

Whats the heatsink/fan on your cpu ?? i forgot the name nice pc looks good
bsan89 (October 9, 2008 at 4:27 pm)
That is the "ULTRA Chilltec"
A TEC (Thermal Electric Cooler")

Works great most of the time.
Used to be one of the best cooler out.

Now newer heatsink for about 40-70$
Example: ZEROtherm Nirvana

can do the job.

But I've gone WC (Water Cooling)
so its just sitting in a box.
